Artist Statement I have been working leather for more than 30 years. I am fascinated by its texture and malleability, even its scent. The images emerge from the surface, interacting with the character of each piece of leather. I research medieval and modern tooling techniques to create work based on historical and contemporary references. I prefer to control the entire surface, and of thousands that make up a finished piece, each mark is placed one at a time. I have transitioned from tooling as decoration of practical objects, to the presentation of images that may be enjoyed on their own. My work has been exhibited in galleries and nationally recognized juried art fairs in California, Connecticut, Florida, Maine, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington State.
